Camões, I.P. promotes the Portuguese language and culture overseas by establishing programmes supporting the creation of Portuguese departments and equivalent structures at foreign universities. The Institute also hires local teachers and promotes, co-ordinates and develops Portuguese language courses and other cultural activities whilst co-ordinating lectureships of the Portuguese language and culture.

Camões, I.P. ensures the teaching of the Portuguese language and culture for students of higher education in various countries through its lectureship network, in co-operation with higher education institutions and international organisations.
