Associação Portuguesa de Escritores - APE

Established in 1982, the Portuguese Writers Association - APE (Associação Portuguesa de Escritores) Grand Prize for Fiction is sponsored by various public and private entities, including Camões, I.P., with the aim of distinguishing one novel each year written by a Portuguese author. To qualify, the first edition of the novel must have been published in Portugal the previous year.

The Grand Prize is worth 15,000 euros and cannot be awarded posthumously.

EUNIC - European Union National Institutes for Culture

Camões, I.P. is a founder member of EUNIC, a network formed in 2006 by the European Union National Institutes for Culture with the objective of promoting cultural co-operation through the creation of partnerships between professionals and other specialists operating in the cultural and educational sectors with a view to developing a greater understanding of European cultural and linguistic diversity. About eighty EUNIC institutions have grouped together to strengthen the network’s ability to act locally in order to gain a greater understanding of cultural diversity, develop contacts and partnerships with professionals and further promote language learning.

European Union Youth Orchestra

Founded in the United Kingdom in 1976, the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) brings together the best young musical talent in the European Union. Auditions are held annually in each of the EU member countries in order to select 140 young musicians between the ages of 14 and 24.

The orchestra offers selected candidates the chance to work with the best music teachers, as well as giving them the opportunity to play in major concert halls around the world with the most renowned conductors and soloists.

Real Gabinete Português de Leitura do Rio de Janeiro

Annual funding is available for the conservation and restoration of works from the collection at the Royal Portuguese Reading Room (Real Gabinete Português de Leitura) in Rio de Janeiro, a traditional library and cultural institution of the Portuguese language located in the centre of Rio de Janeiro.

Council of Trofa

The Council of Trofa operates the Trofa Lusophony Competition, an initiative supported by Camões, I.P. designed to promote children's literature. The aim of the competition is to "discover Portuguese language writers" and "encourage habits of reading and creative writing" with entries open to writers from Portugal, Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe.
