Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da LÃngua, I.P. has in place a set of scholarship programmes within the framework of Portuguese Language and Culture, which are aimed at supporting and promoting:
- improvement of language skills;
- study and research in the area of Portuguese language and culture;
- scientific or professional training of Portuguese as a Second Language;
- training and/or improvement in the area of translation and conference interpreting.
The scholarship programmes are financed by funds from the State Budget allocated to Camões, I.P./Ministry of Foreign Affairs and, when eligible, by funds made available under the status of Enterprise for the Promotion of the Portuguese Language (EPLP).

Summer Course Scholarships to attend Portuguese language and culture summer courses taught at Portuguese universities or institutes recognised by Camões, I.P. are aimed at foreign students and Portuguese citizens living abroad who wish to improve their language skills. The scholarships have the duration of one month. |

Annual Course Scholarships to attend Portuguese language and culture annual courses taught at Portuguese universities or institutes recognised by Camões, I.P. are aimed at foreign students and Portuguese citizens living abroad who wish to improve their language skills. Scholarships awarded under this programme have the duration of eight months and are not renewable. |

Fernão Mendes Pinto Programme This programme is for foreign and Portuguese students either graduate or attending their final year of undergraduate studies who are involved in scientific or professional training projects in the area of Portuguese as a Foreign Language at Camões, I.P. Portuguese Language Centres, Lecturers from Camões, I.P. at foreign universities and institutes that have entered into agreements with Camões, I.P. The duration of the scholarships is variable and they may be renewed. |

Research Programme This programme is for teachers and researchers, both foreigners and Portuguese living abroad, who wish to undertake specialisation studies in the field of Portuguese language and culture in Portugal, namely master and PhD study programmes at Portuguese universities. The duration of the scholarships is variable and they may be renewed.. |

Pessoa Programme This programme is for those who hold a Chair in Portuguese Studies and in Portuguese Departments at foreign universities or research institutes. The programme is aimed at the development of training and research projects in the field of Portuguese language and culture. The duration of the scholarships is variable and they may be renewed. |

Vieira Programme This programme is for foreign and Portuguese graduates living abroad who are involved in training and/or improvement projects in the area of translation and conference interpreting. The duration of the scholarships is variable and they may be renewed. |
